Enjoying my leave

November 17, 2010

I am enjoying my leave at the moment. This is for those who may be wondering what is happening, as I have not posted any comment for some weeks now.

However, I am observing what is going on in my country, Nigeria, with keen interest. Bombs have exploded here and there. Some criminals masquerading as militants have kidnapped innocent people for one flimsy reason or the other. Accidents have claimed many lives in my country. Pensioners are dying everyday waiting to collect their stipends.

In all this, what did our representatives do? They have passed a law, which if signed by the President, will mean that former military dictators, presidents, vice-presidents and so on, will collect salary for life. The National Assembly members also want to pass a bill that will make it expedient for them to be in the executives of their political parties.

What does this show us? It shows that the road to paradise is still far for Nigerians. It shows that our so-called leaders think mostly of what they can do to consolidate their grip on wealth and power. Too bad!

But we should not despair. If we play our parts well, we will sing songs of praise one day. Barka Da Sallah.
